Can eco-digital commons save our planet?
Our present society gets its operating system upside down. It considers natural resources to be infinite, and damages the biosphere on which we all depend; and it enforces artificial scarcities which makes the sharing of knowledge and human cooperation difficult if not illegal. A wave of green hacking aims to change all that. Shared innovation commons for sustainable production aim to overcome design for scarcity and planned obsolescence, and insure that green innovation can spread instantly to a new type of enterpreneurs and communities that eschew intellectual property to create design commons that can benefit the whole humanity. From the rice intensification communities in the Philippines, via the Nutrient Dense Project to more than two dozen open source car projects. something is brewing that will change our industrial models and their institutions and will turn our societal DNA upside down.
